wiki strategy, design and
implementation

Looking for a web-based file sharing tool, collaboration portal,
project management website or knowledge management system for your
organisation? Perhaps
you need an intranet or an extranet for your business? A wiki
might be just what you need...

What's a wiki? Besides being a Hawaiian word for 'fast',
regular users of the world's biggest wiki,
Wikipedia, will
know that a wiki is a collaborative web publishing tool.
Wikis permit all users to publish, edit, comment on,
and even delete content on the site, without the need to operate through
a traditional regulatory 'webmaster'.
The idea is that the 'community' of users is self-regulating,
ensuring that the wiki's content is continually being updated and improved. And who can argue with that - many pundits believe that Wikipedia
today is
more accurate than Encyclopedia Britannica, despite its distributed
authorship.
A wiki can be great for your business too. Wikis can be
deployed as internal intranet sites, extranets, knowledge management
systems, file sharing tools, project management tools, a substitute for
email, or even as a traditional public-facing website.
How do I get a wiki?
Blue Train uses
Atlassian
Confluence as its preferred wiki platform. Atlassian is an
Australian company based in Sydney with an international reputation for
producing fantastic software.
Confluence is a simple, powerful wiki that lets you create and share
pages, documents and rich content with your team. Confluence is a
software-as-a-service product, which means that it is hosted on the web
and it is accessible from any internet connection. You can
learn more about Atlassian Confluence on the Atlassian website.
Our wiki design and implementation service includes the following:
-
Atlassian Confluence
installation and configuration
- Initial setup of wiki architecture and base content
- 1 day on-site consulting, including a detailed training session for
wiki users within your
organisation
- Provision of instructional
documentation
- 3 months email support post-delivery
- Priority support (if required - additional cost)
How much will this cost?
Whilst some specific client requirements may impact upon the cost, the
standard price for a wiki design and implementation is $2,495 ex GST
($2,745 inc GST).
This fee is for a wiki implementation in Adelaide, South Australia.
Blue Train is available to undertake wiki implementations interstate but
the cost of travel (single day for on-site consulting and training) is
borne by the client.
Note that there is a monthly subscription fee payable to
Atlassian after
implementation. This monthly fee starts at US$150
per month (for up to ten users).

Blue Train was engaged by

a South Australian state government body, to assist with the
management of defence industry market intelligence.
From Chris Burns CSC, Director Land, Business Development Team,
Defence SA:
Defence SA engaged Clayton Wehner from Blue Train Enterprises in
early 2009 to assist with the organisation's market intelligence
collection and management. As a former Army intelligence officer
and a Web 2.0 technologist, Clayton brought a very useful mix of
skills to the job. He quickly implemented a wiki for the Business
Development team, which is now used as a central information
repository for all market information collected by members of the
team, as well as a file sharing and collaboration portal. The new
wiki has been embraced by the team and has become an important
online resource for our business operations.
